Artist statement:

The separation in placement is to represent the division between social classes; the privileged, upper-class family is not willing to accept that the inheritance has gone to the fathers' nurse, Marta. The paper is for the family that has been 'ripped apart' due to the finalized documents stating who gets what in the will. The dark red liquid is for the bloodshed battle between the families dispute for greed. Blood is also the main clue in finding who the true murderer is. The pins with red tops are scattered as everyone seems on edge to find out whodunit and how the clues do not line up with each other. The detective is sharp and looking out in all directions to find any information they can, similar to how the needles are placed. They are small, yet all come together making a pile of important information. The black pills look like the dirt spilling out, referencing the encapsulated filth the family has within themselves. The green ones are the money and pride closely-held around the family. The family's entitlement and pride are soon swallowed up, like a pill, as clues are tied and Marta is given the inheritance. The knives are the family; they are all turned against each other and face all there is on the plate for them. Dirt is spilling out of the mug as chaos sets in upon the family. They become covered in the filth of their own greed. Marta is seen at the end with a mug, representing comfort, as she welcomes herself, accepting her inheritance. The white plate holds all the components over the marble table, which is are the fanciest parts of the whole set-up as the movie takes place in the massive house. The candle brings minor elegance to the table as the house and family appear to be put together, yet as you look closer, the candle has clearly been used quite a few times and there is black ash around the edges. All my components transition into one set that is representative of how the families' selfishness forces them to lose their entitled, upper hand.
